Wiman L. Masengarb, 86, of Bettendorf, Iowa, formerly of Rock Island and Coal Valley, Illinois, died Saturday, November 29, 2008, in Trinity Pathway Hospice at Terrace Park, Bettendorf.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, with The Reverend Richard Bresnahan officiating. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley, or Trinity Visiting Nurses and Homemakers Association.
Wiman Lee Masengarb was born July 10, 1922, in Moline, the son of William C. and Fannie (Milleson) Masengarb. He married Sarah Lois Brown on September 10, 1944, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She died April 4, 1998. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard in the Pacific Theater during WW II. He was employed at Eagle Signal Corporation for 36 years, retiring as machine shop foreman in 1981.
He was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley, and a former member of the Davenport Moose Lodge. He enjoyed doing carpentry, watching the news, and talking politics.
Wiman is survived by four children and their spouses, Thomas and Sally Masengarb of Granbury, Texas, James E. Masengarb of Lynn Center, Illinois, Susan and David Karwath of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Jeffrey J. Masengarb of Davenport, Iowa; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and siblings, Marion Masengarb and Howard Masengarb of Bettendorf, and Ralph Masengarb of East Moline. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah; two sons, Mark and Steve Masengarb; and brothers, Paul and Stowell Masengarb.
