Robert L. Hibbert, 92, of Moline, Illinois, well known community volunteer, died Thursday, August 19, 2010, in Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Moline, with The Reverend Laura Koppenhoefer officiating. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, and 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Church. Memorials may be made to the church or Trinity Medical Center Auxiliary.
Robert Louis Hibbert was born January 17, 1918, in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of William Charles and Ferne Angela Hollister Hibbert. He attended Augustana College and married Jane Kruse on June 29, 1940, in Decorah, Iowa. She died June 1, 2000. He was employed in transportation at Deere and Company for 35 years, retiring in 1982. He previously worked at the Rock Island Railroad and also taught transportation at Scott Community College.
Bob was an active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Moline, and active in community affairs. He was past chairman of the Rock Island County Metropolitan Mass Transit District, past president and 40-year member of the Quad City Traffic Club, past president of the Trinity Men?s Club, past president of the John Deere Toastmasters Club, and Advisor for Junior Achievement, and a member of John Deere Retirees, Moline Elks Lodge, and Svithoid Club. He organized the Quad City Cribbage Club in 1991, volunteered at Trinity Medical Center for several years, and volunteered at American Cancer Society Fund Drives.
Bob is survived by two children, Hollister Hallmark and her husband Robert Sutherland of Brooklyn, New York, and Robert L. Hibbert Jr. and his wife June of Moline. He was preceded in death by his wife, a brother John Hibbert, and a sister, Jean Hibbert.
