Kent G. Farley, 83, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Saturday, February 5, 2022, in UnityPoint Health – Trinity Rock Island.
A hospitality gathering will be 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, February 26, at Country Fair Mall, Coal Valley, with food and beverage served in an outdoor tent. Kent’s life will also be honored during the regular Sunday mass at 10:00 a.m. Sunday, February 27, at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley. Cremation will take place prior to services with private burial at Rock Island National Cemetery. Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley, is entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the athletic department at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois.
Kent Gilmore Farley was born February 23, 1938, in Rhodell, West Virginia, the son of Eldridge and Gladys (Gilmore) Farley. He served in the U.S Air Force and went on to graduate from Bradley University. He worked for First Midwest Bank, Moline, before owning and operating Country Fair Mall in Coal Valley for the last 30-plus years.
He was a member of the Elk’s Club. He was a pitcher in the Air Force and for the Bradley University baseball teams. While at Bradley, he compiled an impressive career ERA of 2.29 and batting average of .347. Above all else, his sons and grandchildren were the most important thing to Kent.
Kent is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gregory Farley of Coal Valley, and Matthew (Karin) Farley) of Gothenburg, Sweden; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Norah, Iris, and Filip Farley; a sister, Cassie Pyle of Lexington, Kentucky; and nieces and nephews, Mark Farley, Scott Farley, Kelly Quick, Kim Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Douglas Farley.
