Kenneth Edward “Kenny” McMaster, 87, Silvis, Illinois, died Monday, February 24, 2025, at home. During his final week, he was supported by UnityPoint Hospice and surrounded by his family and friends.
Visitation will be 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 7, at The Conservancy Lodge, 3800 Flora Drive, Milan, Illinois followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. A private burial will take place at a later time at Coal Valley Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Rescued in Silvis.
Kenny was born on August 23, 1937 in Kewanee, Ilinois, to Margauritte (McConnell) and Cyrus H McMaster. He was raised in Milan, IL and graduated from Sherrard High School in 1955. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army serving 3 years in active duty (a 20-month tour in Germany). He also was in the active reserves for an additional 3 years.
After completing his military service, he returned to Milan where he met Sandra L Duncan at the Milan Made-Rite where she was working; they were married March 11, 1960 and were married 60 years at the time of her death. After starting their family, they moved to Coal Valley, IL raising their 5 children. Kenny was active in the local Dads Club, The Lions Club, as well as participating in other community functions making lifelong friends along the way.
As a Heavy Equipment Operator, he was a proud member of Midwest Operating Engineers Local 150 Union for over 60 years working primarily with PavSaver, 5 Cities Construction as well as Valley Construction.
After retiring, he and his wife moved to Punta Gorda, Florida and enjoyed 26 years of sunshine and warm winters. They returned to the Quad Cities in January 2020 to be closer to QC family and friends.
Kenny is survived by daughters: Tammy (Michael) Bryant and Tina Klauer, Rock Island; sons: Jeff McMaster, Arcadia Florida and Terry (Kim) McMaster, Milan; Grandchildren: Heather (Stan) Olive, Sara (Callahan) Maxwell, Chelsea (Matt) Bailey, Nathan (Rebecca) McMaster, Kadie and Emily Klauer; Great grandchildren; Peyton McGee, Collin Jensen, Makayla McMaster, Callahan Maxwell II, and Finley Maxwell. Sister Alice Green, Webster Florida, Brother-in-law, Joe (Robin) Duncan, Colona and Sister- in-law Laura Duncan, Princeton, Iowa; and special friend, Carol Koester, East Moline.
Kenny is preceded in death by his wife Sandra, his son Kevin McMaster, daughter-in-law Peg McMaster, his parents, brothers Hosea McMaster and William McMaster; Sisters Virginia Groves, Margaret Ringenberg, and Georgia Smith.
The family would like to thank Tom Peck, Brian Vynke, radiation nurse Dan at UnityPoint, and Rose Mendenhall, Empire Apartments for their support during the past year. Dad loved you all so much.
Our dad was one of the best and will be missed by many. While on this earth, he truly earned his wings in Heaven.
