Kelly A. Wassell, 65, of Port Byron, Illinois, died Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at Select Specialty Hospital, Davenport, Iowa.
Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities.
The former Kelly Ann Micklewright was born October 28, 1958, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Wayne and Karen (Kinkaid) Lloyd. She married the love of her life, Fredrick “Rick” Wassell on February 26, 1983, in Port Byron. He died May 9, 2017. Kelly and Rick owned and operated Port Byron Machine, Inc. for many years. She was a past member of Bethel Baptist Church, Port Byron. She loved helping others, volunteering for several different organizations over the years, including two that she ran, LOOP (Loved Ones of Prisoner’s) and Ann’s Helping Hands.
Her passion was writing, and she was a true wordsmith. She also enjoyed reading and gardening.
Kelly is survived by her children, Tobin Benway of Davenport, Sarah (Jeremy) Jacques of Bettendorf, and Samuel Wassell of Port Byron; grandchildren, Tomas, Nevaeh, Angel and Gabby Benway, Madison Jacques, and Madilynn Wassell; and her sisters, Maleia (Michael) Fitzsimmons of Davenport, and Kerry Cox of Rock Falls, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rick; and sisters, Gayle Micklewright and Andrea Lloyd.
