Keith E. Glaus

Keith E. Glaus, 84, former Mayor of Coal Valley, died Sunday, December 16, 2018, at Heritage Woods of Moline.

Services are 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation is 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Friday. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice.

Keith Edward Glaus was born September 1, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Lloyd and Mae Helgerman Glaus. He served in the Illinois National Guard, and married Joan Marie Baraks on February 17, 1952, in Coal Valley. She died August 26, 2014.

Keith worked for Sanitary Farm Dairies for 15 years before going to work for the Village of Coal Valley as the director of public works for 26 years. He also served as Mayor of Coal Valley for 5 years. After retiring, he worked for National and Enterprise Car Rental for 14 years. He volunteered for the Coal Valley Fire Department, retiring as as lieutenant. He was a 50-year member of Valley Lodge #547, AF & AM. In 2015, he went to Vero Beach, Florida, to be a "Snow bird" for the first time.

Keith is survived by four children, Debra (Gerald) Stahr of Coal Valley, Sandra (David Switzer) Wall of Florida, Daniel Glaus of Chicago, Illinois, and Rachel (Thomas) Polak of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; 10 grandchildren, Andrew (Jennifer) Stahr, Nichol (Chuck) Ashmore, Bobby (Kim) Wall, Chantel (Andrew) Valente, Ryan Wall, Henry Glaus, and Hannah, Luke, Sarah and Mary Polak; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and a brother, Erle (Carol) Glaus of Le Claire, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Joan.
