Services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 17, at Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline, with The Rev. Jon McCoy officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church.
Kay was born in Auburn, Nebraska on November 1st, 1937 to her loving parents, Veve and Lawrence Quante. She was raised and schooled in Brock, Nebraska, graduating from Brock High School. She went on to attend the University of Nebraska for one year, playing tuba in the marching band. She married, moved to Illinois, and had two children.
She married Barton Swales in 1966. Bart adopted her two children, Deanna and Brian. Bart and Kay had almost 49 years of happy marriage. They traveled to many areas of the country and were both very involved with their church. They enjoyed family times with their kids and grandkids, living life with gusto. Bart passed in 2015, and Kay was blessed with a later-in-life partner, Bill Favri. They in turn enjoyed keeping an active social life with their numerous friends, family and church activities and also just spending time together. Bill was a rock in Kay's life and with her until the end.
In younger years Kay worked at Royal Neighbors of America in Rock Island. She enjoyed people and made many lifelong friends easily through work, church, social activities and her wonderful neighbors. She will be greatly missed by all those who loved her.
Kay is survived by Bill, her stepdaughter Julie (Craig) Lothson, stepson Jim (Pam) Swales, grandchildren Joshua Swales, Christopher (Rachel) Swales, Anne (Brandon) Odom, Daniel (Britny) Swales, Jenna Moore and Alex Moore, great-grandchildren Gabriel, Grace and Josiah Swales and Caitlyn Reid and several nephews.
