Sandra Kay Blodgett, 65, of Orion, Illinois, died Wednesday, September 5, 2007, in Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa, with her husband and brother by her side.
Services are 9:30 a.m. Monday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, and 10 a.m. Monday at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley. The Reverend Jim DeBisschop will officiate. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Sandra Blodgett Memorial Fund which will be established in her name.
The former Sandra Kay Plunkett was born August 13, 1942, in Moline, the daughter of Richard LeRoy and Larene (Carlson) Plunkett. She graduated from the Villa de Chantal, Rock Island, and from Orion High School. She married Frederick V. Blodgett on August 29, 1972, in Moline. She retired from the Rock Island Arsenal as director of the Civilian Recreation Division in 2002. She previously was office manager for NCO and Officer Clubs at Air Force bases in Texas and Ohio, and at the NATO base in Izmir, Turkey.
Sandi was a huge Chicago Bears and Cubs fan and a life long Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan. She was an excellent cook, decorator, baker and gardener and was a runner-up in the local Martha Stewart contest. She enjoyed Christmas and collecting teddy bears. She was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley. She loved traveling, and especially enjoyed visiting Mary?s House in Ephesus, Turkey, and The Vatican in Rome.
Sandi is survived by her husband, Frederick; her brother, Richard Patrick Plunkett and his wife Julie of Rock Island; nephews, Shawn Patrick Plunkett-Stewart and his wife Rebecca and their son Grant Patrick, and Ryan Patrick Donovan Plunkett.
