Kathleen "Katie" was born December 29, 1948, in Igloo, South Dakota, the daughter of John B. and Virginia Sweeney. She graduated from Alleman High School and Black Hawk College. She married James Jones on September 14, 2002.
Katie worked in sales throughout her life, working 28 years at Vonachen & Amsan Interline Brands, where she had the distinction of being among the first women on their outside sales force. She retired in 2014. Always one with a generous heart, Katie supported local charities and volunteered at Genesis Hospital gift shop for many years.
Katie always embraced life and loved playing cards and games, laughing and enjoying time with family and friends. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, camping with her husband and friends and spending time with her animals. She had a passion for horseback riding and loved to ride and compete at local horse shows with her beloved Saddlebred horse, Jelly, who survives.
Katie will be remembered with love by her husband, Jim; sisters, Sharon Sweeney of Chicago, Mary Ann (John) Merano of Springfield, and Michele Sweeney of Milan; nephews, Michael Merano of Springfield, and Patrick Sweeney of Davenport; as well as many friends that she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, John and James Sweeney.
