Kathleen Thompson, 92, of Moline, Illinois, died Sunday, August 2, 2015, at UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, Illinois.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2015, at Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church, Moline, with The Reverend Tim Gossett officiating. Cremation has taken place at Trimble Crematory with burial at Riverside Cemetery, Moline. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Memorials may be made to the church. Trimble Funeral Home & Crematory, Moline, is serving the family.
The former Kathleen Jane Danley was born December 22, 1922, in Rock Island, Illinois, the daughter of Jack and Bessie (Barron) Danley. She was a graduate of Rock Island High School. She also graduated with an Associate's Degree from Kendall College in Evanston, Illinois, and attended Blackhawk and Augustana. She married Burdette "Bud" Thompson on January 27, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois. He died February 20, 1983.
Kathleen worked at Hy-Vee and Sports Souvenirs while in Moline. She was an active member of Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church, having served as President of Woman's Fellowship. While living on the North Shore of Chicago, she was an active member of the Glencoe Women's Club and The North Shore United Methodist Church. She was interested in politics, having worked at the polls for many years and on many political campaigns. She enjoyed reading, collecting antiques, was a wonderful jazz singer in her younger years, and was a Girl Scout leader for over 10 years.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Mel Polarek of Green Bay, Wisconsin; a son, Dan Thompson of Moline; a granddaughter, Nicole Polarek and her husband, Jason Ferry, of Appleton, Wisconsin; a grandson; two great-grandsons, Drew and Will Ferry; a sister-in-law, Joyce Danley; a brother-in-law, Wilfred Witting; and nieces, nephews, and their children. She was preceded in death by her husband, and siblings, Jackie Quinn, Bill Danley, Pat Danley, and Barbara Witting.
