Coal Valley, Illinois Katherine E. Ryan, 88 of Coal Valley, formerly of Rock Island, died Monday, September 9, 2002, at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley. Funeral services are at Noon on Thursday, at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley, with the Reverend Mike Schaab of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Orion, where she was a member. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Oak Glen Home or to the American Cancer Society. The Former Katherine Elizabeth Schuermann was born April 24, 1914 in Franklin, Missouri, the daughter of Edward and Pauline (Baumhoefer) Schuermann. She married Charles Ledbetter on December 25, 1929 in Hannibal, Missouri; he died May 24, 1962. She married James Ryan on May 4, 1968 in Rock Island; he died January 20, 1986. Katherine was employed at Feltex Corporation in Rock Island, was a cook at the Rock Island County TB Sanitarium, and the Elks Club in Rock Island. She was a housekeeper for Virginia Wayne for over 32 years. Katherine was a very loving person, a Good Samaritan, and had a loving heart. She never met a stranger, was always helping family or friends, and always had room for one more at her table. She was a past member of the Eagles Club Auxiliary in Rock Island. She enjoyed gardening and craft making and playing bingo. She will truly be missed by all who knew her and will be a flower in Gods Garden. Katherine is survived by three daughters, Gloria Stiles and caring friend Richard Eaton with whom she resided with of Coal Valley, Sarah and Floyd Catterton of Brandenton, Florida and Frances Large of Hannibal, Missouri, 56 Grandchildren, 62 Great-Grandchildren, 16 Great-Great-Grandchildren; and a brother, Harvey Schuermann of Reno, Nevada. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Dorothy Ledbetter, and Pauline Biscontine; two sons, Harvey, and Charles Ledbetter, an infant daughter, and four brothers, Walter, Herbert, Lawrence, and Edward Schuermann.
