William K. Greenwood, 79, of Geneseo, Illinois, died Friday, January 2, 2009, in Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where Valley Lodge #547, AF & AM, will conduct Masonic funeral services at 4 p.m. Monday. Memorials may be made to the Lymphoma Society.
William Keith Greenwood was born February 1, 1929, in Moline, the son of William and Carrie (Hamlin) Greenwood. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948 to 1952. He married Edith Ann Dickeson on July 1, 1956, in Yorktown, Illinois. She died October 24, 1982. He married Annette Egert Trowbridge on December 31, 1986, in Geneseo. Bill served the Illinois State Police as a State Trooper in District Seven for 30 years, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Coal Valley; Geneseo Moose Lodge #990; Moline American Legion Post #246; Valley Lodge #547, AF & AM, Coal Valley; Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #41, Elks Lodge in Mesa, Arizona; and the National Rifle Association. He was a Firearms instructor and competitive shooter, and enjoyed golf, gardening, and spending time at his home in Mesa, Arizona.
Bill is survived by his wife, Annette; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Barb Greenwood of Schuyler, Nebraska; a daughter, Beth Phelps of Deadwood, South Dakota; step children and their spouses, Cristine and David Nelson of Cambridge, Illinois, David and Frankie Trowbridge of Geneseo, Karen and Tim Shannon of Geneseo, and Jim and Robyn Trowbridge of Lake Ozark, Missouri; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elaine and Bob Greim of Davenport, Florida, and Cleo and Bob Boens of Orion, Illinois; and a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Joanna Greenwood of Moline.
