Marie Gravitt, 91, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Saturday, March 17, 2007, in the emergency room at Trinity Medical Center, Moline.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley, with The Reverend Ray Guthrie officiating. Burial is in Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the church. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, is entrusted with the arrangements.
The former Marie K. Hinkel was born September 12, 1915, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of John and Catherine (Majerus) Hinkel. She married Arthur Floyd Gravitt on April 1, 1933, in East Moline. He died May 26, 2000. She was a long-time member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, and was the church?s janitor for 31 years, retiring in 1997. She loved her family and enjoyed making quilts.
Marie is survived by five children and their spouses, Janice and Richard Seibert of Moline, Richard and Pat Gravitt of Coal Valley, Barb and Marv Swanson of Orion, Marge and Jerry Maddox of Coal Valley, and Sandy and Don Metzner of Little York; a daughter-in-law, Jean Gravitt; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Arthur E. ?Gene? Gravitt and Michael W. Gravitt, four brothers, and three sisters.
