June Hewitt, 88, formerly of Moline, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 27, 2009, in Irene Swindell?s Residential Unit at California Pacific Medical Center, San Francisco, California.

The former June Alice Sellers was born June 5, 1920, in Moline, the daughter of Walter and Alice (Newton) Sellers. June was raised in Moline and spent many happy hours as a child playing and ice skating in Prospect Park, which was very near her home. She graduated from Moline High School in 1938, and went to work as a secretary for Blue Cross/Blue Shield and later the Rock Island Arsenal.
June later moved to Amarillo, Texas to be near her future husband, Milas, who was stationed there in the Air Force. They were married in Amarillo on June 11, 1943 and later moved back to Moline where they lived for many years. He died November 17, 1988. In later life, June moved to California to be close to her daughter.
She was kept busy caring for her family and being involved with many activities including the PTA, she was a co-leader of the Brownies at Jefferson School, an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a life member of the LCWA, the Moline Women?s Club, and Women?s Club Garden Department V. She was a life member of the Kings Daughters, and held many positions in the Triple C Circle in Moline. She was a long time member of the National Federation of Republican Women.
June was an avid bridge player and played in many groups. But her greatest accomplishment and happiness came from her many friendships and from her loving family. She was an ardent hostess and a great cook, and some of her finest pleasure came from hours in the garden and arranging the beautiful flowers that came out of it.
Her good cheer, loving nature and kind spirit were well-known in her family and circle of friends. Her thoughts were always focused on others and what she could do to make them happy or be of help in some way. She will be greatly missed by those who love her.
June is survived by a daughter, Sheila Hewitt of Los Angeles, California, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, sisters, Dorothy Johnson and Helen Danielson, and brother, Russell Sellers.
