Charlotte Joy Shipley was born on July 28th, 1931, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Jack and Edna McFadden Shipley. The family moved to Moline in 1946, where Joy soon became a dedicated Moliner serving as cheerleader and Homecoming Queen. Joy loved working in bustling downtown Moline at Western Mutual Life Insurance Company, prior to her happy marriage to Jack Dye in 1954. Joy was a member of First Congregational Church in Moline, singing in choir and teaching Sunday School. She was very active in Cub scouts, Brownies, and the Franklin PTA when her children were young. She worked with children her entire life in some form. She directed her unparalleled loving kindness on her children and grandchildren, and developed a unique and lifelong bond with each one of them. Family was her focus and everyone benefited from her generosity, thoughtfulness and awesome culinary skills. She made friends easily and enjoyed her high school friends and bridge club her entire life. Joyful loved flowers, gardens and the many Boston Terriers who shared her life.
Joy is survived by her husband, Jack Dye; children, Bradley Dye and Joanna Glockhoff Dye, Jeffrey Dye and Tammie Newvine-Erskine, and Jodi Dye Zimmerman and Mark Zimmerman; grandchildren, Jared and Derek Dye and Jessica and Jenna Zimmerman; and brothers and sister-in-law, Gene Shipley and Ronald and Bettelou Shipley.
