LeClaire, Iowa
Josie Dorthia Sims, 36, of LeClaire, Iowa, entered into Heaven in the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at the University of Iowa Hospital, surrounded by her family and friends.
There will be no public services. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to the Handicapped Development Center, Personal Independence, 3402 Hickory Grove, Davenport, Iowa, 52806.
Miss Josie was born September 2, 1977, in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Gordon R. and Barbara A. (Schunter) Sims.
Josie moved to LeClaire, in 1989, and began a full life with her Mother, step-father and family. She attended Truman Elementary and graduated from North High School in 1999. For the past 14 years, Josie continued to live at home and went to the Handicapped Development Center/ Personal Independence Center in Davenport. Josie thrived not only from unconditional love at home, but also the love and care provided at HDC. Josie's care was a collaborative effort of many people over the years. Most recent assistance was provided by Emily Goldsberry, Kimberlee Hudson and Tiffany Waterman with Family Care Solutions, Great River Bend Transit Driver; Chuck and Verlina, Case Manager; Stephanie Broer, best friend Mandy Lightner and many, many others.
Josie's profound personality was her greatest asset. She was a "diamond in the rough" and was loved by everyone that helped in her care. Josie was the light in her Mom and Step-Dad's world and they want to say:
If I had to choose between loving you and breathing…..
I would use my last breath to tell you….I Love You.
Grateful for having shared her life and to cherish her memories are her mother and step-father, Barb and Ken Taylor of LeClaire; an aunt, Bonnie Reinhart of Moline, Illinois; two step-brothers; three step-sisters; Harold and Linda Teagarden and family of Princeton, Iowa; next door neighbors, Jim and Sue Swanson and their family; and her father, Gordon R. Sims of Abany, Illinois. She also leaves many friends from HDC who loved her very much.
She was preceded in death by her maternal Grandparents, William A. and Thelma Josie (Walker) Schunter. Both grandparents were waiting with open arms for their very special granddaughter.
Josie's family would like to thank all of the Doctor's and nurses at Genesis Hospital and the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics that provided care to make Josie's time here on earth most comfortable. To all the family and friends that have shown love and support for Josie's parents, an enormous thanks!!
