Rock Island, Illinois Services for Josephine M. Kirby, 84, of Rock Island, are 2 p.m. Friday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. The Reverend Connie Leader, Pathway Hospice Chaplain, will officiate. Burial is in Riverside Cemetery, Moline. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Parkinson's Disease or Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan. Mrs. Kirby died Tuesday, August 13, 2002, in her home, surrounded by her family. The former Josephine Marie McCann was born December 2, 1917, in Canton, Illinois, the daughter of Leslie and Amy (Wilkinson) McCann. She married Charles W. Kirby on March 13, 1943, in Moline. She was employed in the Logistics Command at the Rock Island Arsenal for 23 years, retiring as supervisor in 1987. She was an avid volunteer with the humane society and loved to play Euchre. She received the Volunteer of the Year Award from the Rock Island YMCA. Josephine is survived by her husband of 59 years, Charles; a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Robert Warner of Coal Valley; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Patrick Kirby and Lacy A. Hansen of Davenport; four grandchildren, Devin A. Kirby-Hansen, Michelle Weaver, Kayla Briesch and her husband Bill, and Karla Toland and her husband Robert; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Katherine Ohnemus of DeWitt, Iowa, and Edna Rae Griffith of Golden, Colorado; and a brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Shelba Lawson of Coal Valley. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Lee Kirby; three grandchildren, Cary Lynn, Karen Kay, and Rob Warner; her parents; three sisters, Margaret Stromer, Melba Stromer, and Hazel Wells; and two brothers, James Lawson and Harold McCann.
