Joseph B. Owen

February 12, 1961 — March 1, 2025

Davenport, Iowa

Joseph Brian Owen, 64, of Davenport, Iowa, crossed the finish line on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at MercyOne Genesis Davenport Medical Center.

Born on February 12, 1961, in Moline, Illinois, Joe was the beloved son of Richard “Red” Sr and Shirley (Sherwood) Owen. He lived his life with joy, laughter, and a passion for making others smile.

In his earlier years, Joe could often be found by the BBQ smoker, perfecting his craft. He was wonderful at smoking meats, always eager to share his delicious creations with family and friends. Joe had a gift for bringing people together, whether over a meal, a joke, or a magic trick that left everyone puzzled.

A true NASCAR fan, Joe especially loved the Jeff Gordan years. Joe’s enthusiasm for the sport was contagious and he never missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorites. On a local level, Joe was most proud of Team #95 and was a part of the original team of the 1980’s and early 90’s, with his brother Red. He cherished visiting stockcar raceways to celebrate his nephew, Jesse’s racing achievements.

Joe is survived by his sister, Sharon (Samuel) Wilkerson of Auxvasse, Missouri; brother, Jimmy “Red” (Nancy) Owen of Colona, Illinois; his longtime girlfriend, Denise Torrence; along with her children, Nicole Pickers, Chyenne Rapp, and Tori Rapp. He was also a supportive grandfather to Bryant & Lextyn Pickens, and Leo & Maizie Rapp; and was excitedly awaiting the arrival of baby boy, Levi, in early March to join the pit crew.

Also surviving are his nephews, Joshua Owen, Jesse (Kayleigh) Owen, and Jeremiah (Amy) DeBaker; a niece, Carmen Marie (Patrick) Barnum; great nieces and nephews, Emma, Hattie, and Tanner Wine; along with his cherished friend and companion, Cindy McCabe.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Steve, Rick, and infant Billy Jay; his brother-in-law, Carmen Wilkerson; great-nephew, Jordan Long and his beloved soulmate, Mary Spencer Anderson.

Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Trimble Funeral Home. A checkered flag memorial will be celebrated at a later date. Those interested in attending may contact (573) 253-4139 for future notification.

Joe’s family and friends will forever cherish the joy he brought into their lives. His laughter, love, and legendary generosity will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
