Jose N. Quintanilla, 80, of Taylor Ridge, Illinois, died Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at Trinity Rock Island.
Services are 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church, Andalusia, with Father Stephen Engelbrecht officiating. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, where a rosary will take place at 2:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
Jose N. Quintanilla was born July 2, 1932, in Cotulla, Texas, the son of Jose and Julia (Niaves) Quintanilla. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He married Lucia Fernandez on December 20, 1959, in Cotulla.
Jose worked as a cement finisher, most recently for Civil Constructors in Silvis for over 20 years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Cement Finishers Union Local 544 and the Laborers Union Local 309. He enjoyed working, both at his job, and at home, where he gardened, and built furniture and birdhouses. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.
Jose is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lucia; children and their spouses, Belinda Hull of Rock Island, Maricella and Doug Sanders of Colona, Javier and Pamela Quintanilla of Andalusia, and Dante Quintanilla of Andalusia; grandchildren, Marisa and Isabel Hull, Martin Hull, Jr., Brian Haynes, Brianne, Brett, and Amanda Sanders, and Olivia, Devon, and Kelsey Quintanilla; great-grandchildren, Quintan Hayne, Keela Quintanilla, and Ariah Abbott; two sisters, Rita Gonzalez of Houston, Texas, and Refugia and Dionicio Sanchez of Cotulla; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.
