Johnnie L. Melton, 92, of Moline, Illinois, died Sunday, July 16, 2006, in Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley, Illinois.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with The Reverend Rick McGough officiating. Burial is in Rose Lawn Memorial Estates, Moline. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Johnnie Lee Melton was born December 4, 1913, in Henderson, Tennessee, the son of John Henry and Ada Elizabeth (Brown) Melton. He married Odessa Tucker on October 16, 1948, in Corinth, Mississippi. He served in the U.S. Army for four years during WW II, and was in the European Theater. He was an engineer at Franciscan Hospital Power Plant, retiring in 1979. He enjoyed hunting and gardening.
Johnnie is survived by his wife, Odessa; five children and their spouses, Gary and Gail Melton of Rock Island, Lesa and Dick Ernst of Rock Island, Phyllis Bell of Moline, Darrell and Brenda Melton of Milan, and Jeanette and Craig Porter of Geneseo; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Sue Riggins of East Prairie, Missouri, and Lula Russell of St. Louis; a brother, Joe Neal Melton of East Moline; and special friends, Peggy and Tom Bein and their children, Angela and Kelly, of Foley, Alabama. He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
