John W. ?John-Boy? Williams, 67, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Wednesday, September 12, 2012, in Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, Illinois.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday in The Refuge United Pentecostal Church, 3795 9th Street, Rock Island, Illinois, with Pastor David Brown officiating. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, Visitation is one hour before the services at the church. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is in charge of arrangements.
John Wesley Williams was born July 23, 1945, in East St. Louis, Illinois, the son of Willie and Florence McCorkle Williams. He had been married to Brenda Williams. He proudly served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a self-employed carpenter, and had worked at the Rock Island Arsenal and John Deere. He was active in the community and his church, The Refuge, and was a founder of the Parent Action Committee. He enjoyed fishing and working with his hands.
John-Boy is survived by nine children, LaMarcus Williams and his wife Sara, Nicole Williams, and Minnie Spann, all of Davenport, Iowa, Kizzi Williams and Kentrell Williams, both of Rock Island, Reggie Williams, John Williams Jr., and LaNice Williams, all of Los Angeles, California, and Jarrin Williams of Minneapolis, Minnesota; a host of grandchildren; and brothers, Louis Williams and Robert Williams, both of Rock Island. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Rosie McCorkle; and brothers, Leslie, Arthur, and Willie McCorkle.
