John Hayes, 97, of Moline, Illinois, died Wednesday, December 6, 2006, at Rosewood Care Center in Moline.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. There will be a Masonic service at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Doric Lodge 319 AF & AM, Moline. Memorials may be made to Riverside United Methodist Church in Moline, where John was a member.
John Edward Hayes was born near Wapello, Iowa, on November 11, 1909, the son of Edward Oscar and Clara Frederica (Korn) Hayes. He grew up in Toolesboro, Iowa, and graduated from Iowa State University in Ames, where he married Lola Baker on September 4, 1936. He was an engineer and supervisor at John Deere for 24 years, retiring in 1972. He also worked at Strombeck-Becker Manufacturing Company for 12 years.
John enjoyed trap shooting, hunting, fishing, bowling, traveling, and could fix anything that needed fixing.
John is survived by his wife of 70 years; daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Bill Cutlip of Silver Spring, Maryland, and Dotti and Jack Cutlip of Arlington Heights, Illinois; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Nancy Hayes of Davenport, Iowa; grandchildren and their spouses, Bill and Jackie Cutlip, Mark and Christine Cutlip, Bob and Laurie Cutlip, Russ and Lisa Cutlip, Christi and Kurt Humm, Tom and Michelle Cutlip, Sarah Hayes, Marion Karl, and John D. Hayes; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, August Hayes.
