Joanne E. Fredericksen

June 1, 1932 — August 27, 2024

Davenport, Iowa

Joanne E. Fredericksen, 92, of Davenport, Iowa, died Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at Good Samaritan Society, Davenport.

Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Burial will take place at Harlan Cemetery, Harlan, Iowa, at a later date.

The former Joanne Esther Havick was born June 1, 1932, in Harlan, Iowa, the daughter of Claude and Alice (Kringel) Havick. She married the love of her life, Linwood Fredericksen, on May 31, 1953, in Harlan.

She attended Dana College in Blair, Nebraska, Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, Nebraska, and the University of Montana in Missoula, Montana.

Joanne was Real Estate Saleswoman in DuPage County, Illinois from 1973 until 1980, when she began working for Hines-Loyola Hospital in Hines, Illinois. She worked in administrative support for the medical research department for three years and then for the Department of Therapeutic Radiology until retiring in 1998.

Joanne was the “cool mom” as her kids were growing up and they remember trips to the airfield to watch their mom fly Cessna airplanes. She was a fantastic baker, always eager to try new recipes. She will be remembered for her baklava and aebelskiver, as well as the goodies she made for her grandchildren’s weddings. Joanne was also very creative, with an ability to turn something ordinary into something beautiful.

Above all else, family was the most important thing to Joanne, especially her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Joanne is survived by her beloved husband of over 71 years, Linwood; three children, Barbara (Edward) King of McConnell, Illinois, Linwood “Woody” (Lynnae) Fredericksen of Downers Grove, Illinois, and David (Ginny) Fredericksen of Huntley, Illinois; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her nephew, Rick (Debbie) Phillipson of Pine River, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Barbara Phillipson.
