Joann Erickson, 83, of Davenport, Iowa, formerly of East Moline, Illinois, died Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2009, in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude?s Children?s Research Hospital.
Joann Burdick was born October 20, 1925, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Harry and Nellie (Anderson) Burdick. She married Virgil Erickson on January 19, 1947, in Orion, Illinois. He died May 30, 1998.
Joann was a proud homemaker, raising her sons and helping her husband run their farm in Orion. Joann enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, and traveling, especially ocean gazing and the beautiful Colorado Mountains. She dearly loved her many pets over the years.
She is survived by sons Bruce (Fayrene) Erickson of Oceanside, California, and Barry (Diane) Erickson of Davenport; grandchildren, Brett (Leigh Ann) Erickson and Nikki Erickson; step-grandchildren, Robert (Kyra) Butt, Clarence (Lisa) Butt, and Patrick (Bobbie) Butt; eight step-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Betty (Ray) Carlson of Lynn Center, Illinois; and many loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert (Carol) Burdick, a sister, Nancy (Ernie) Howell, a sister-in-law, Bernice (Ralph) Anderson, and nephews, Gary Burdick and Dennis Howell.
