Joachim H. Growe

Joachim H. "Joe" Growe, 84, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Friday, April 22, 2016, at Rosewood Care Center, Moline.

Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Trimble Funeral Home. Private burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.

He was born April 22, 1932, in Boizenburg, Germany, the son of Heinrich and Hilda (Schmidt) Growe. He served in the U.S. Army for two years before marrying Rita Wessel on July 8, 1958, in Rock Island.

Joe worked for Johnson Contracting Company for nearly 40 years, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the American/Schleswig-Holstein Heritage Society, and enjoyed electronics, photography, gardening and working with model trains.

He is survived by his wife, Rita; a daughter and son-in-law, Monica and Joe Kayser of Elgin, Illinois; a grandson, Adam; and a brother, Erich Growe of Germany. He was preceded in death by a sister, Brunhilde Sinnigen.
