Jimmie C. Horton

March 18, 1943 — February 10, 2025

Rock Island, Illinois

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jimmie C. Horton, 81, of Rock Island, Illinois, who peacefully departed this life on Monday, February 10, 2025, at Silvis Center in Silvis, Illinois.

Jimmie was born on March 18, 1943, in Forrest City, Arkansas, to Thomas and Pauline (Henley) Horton. At the young age of 12, he moved to Jefferson City, Missouri, to live with his aunt, where he began shaping the resilient and hardworking man he would become.

Jimmie’s journey was one of determination and perseverance. He attended trade school to learn automotive painting and mechanics, later expanding his expertise into automotive upholstery. Through sheer dedication, he became a self-made businessman, at one time owning Milwaukee, Wisconsin’s largest auto body and mechanic shop, used car lot, and parts store. His work ethic was unmatched, and his passion for providing for his family and community never wavered.

Even at age 60, Jimmie proved that learning never stops—he returned to school and proudly earned his GED.

Beyond his career, Jimmie was a man who found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved fishing along the Mississippi River, playing chess, and golfing. He carried a deep love for his family, always ensuring that those around him were cared for and supported.

Jimmie leaves behind a legacy of love and strength, cherished by his children: Sharon Hart (Park Forest, IL), Dawn Wells (Covington, GA), Devona Williams (Fayetteville, AK), Jimmie Williams (Rock Island, IL), Terell Williams (Rock Island, IL), Eddie Williams (Rock Island, IL), and Dale Williams (Rock Island, IL).

He also embraced his stepchildren with the same warmth and guidance: Denita Wells (San Jose, CA), Renee Wilburn (Rock Island, IL), Dewayne Wilburn (Rock Island, IL), DiAngelo Wilburn (Milwaukee, WI), and Jerome Wilburn (Rock Island, IL).

Jimmie’s love extended across generations, as he was a proud grandfather to a host of grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense joy.

He was a proud, stern, and resilient man who not only provided for his mother and siblings but also for his children and everyone who crossed his path. His strength, wisdom, and unwavering dedication will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Jimmie is preceded in life by his beloved sisters, Florene Darden and Lorene Smith, and his brother, Robert BoBo.
