Jewell E. Calzia, 84, of Brighton, Colorado, died, January 21, 2005 in Brighton, CO. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday at Orion Lutheran Cemetery, Orion, Illinois. Arrangements are being handled by Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. The former Jewell E. Westerlund was born March 16, 1919, in Barstow, Illinois, the daughter of Gilbert L. & Julia (Wang) Westerlund. She attended schools in Henry County, Doland, South Dakota and graduated from Lynn Center in 1937. Jewell married James L. Calzia May 4, 1943 in Kahoha, Missouri and has lived in Brighton since 1979. Jewell worked for Service Rubber in Rock Island. She attended Church in Moline, loved gardening and traveling, was proud to accomplish her goal of going to the Rose Bowl Parade and seeing Alaska. Jewell was very family oriented and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At the age of 72 she climbed Twin Sisters Mountain and Sugar Loaf Mountain in Boulder at the age of 83. During WWII she lived in Arizona and California while her husband was working as an Italian interpreter for the US Army. Jewell always loved living in Colorado. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Valeri Calzia, Moline, daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Porter Murphy, Sterling Heights, Michigan, sister, Nina Struss of Apache Junction, Arizona, 7 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandaughters. She was preceded in death by her husband James, son, David in 2003, 2 brothers and 1 sister.
