Jerome C. "Jerry" Piper

Jerome C. “Jerry” Piper, 81, of Silvis, Illinois, died Wednesday, February 17, 2021.

Services are Noon Saturday, February 20, at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, Moline, with The Rev. Santina Poor officiating. The service will be livestreamed and archived for viewing on Jerry’s obituary page at www.TrimbleFuneralHomes.com. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park. Jerome Charles Piper was born March 30, 1939, in Moline, to Theodore Russell and Frankie Mildred (Hannah) Piper. He married Judith Herbst on February 25, 1961, in Galesburg, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1960 to 1966 and was named “Soldier of the Year” by the Chicago Tribune in 1962.

Jerry worked as supervisor of Industrial Engineering for International Harvester Farmall Works from 1958 until retiring from Case IH on January 1, 1992.

He was a member and Past-President of the Board of Education for the Silvis School District #34 for 26 years. He belonged to Hope United Church of Christ, Moline Viking Lodge, Moline Activity and Senior Citizens Center, Silvis Garden Club, and was Past-President of the Exchange Club of East Moline/Silvis and Q.C. Vintage Rod Club. He was also a two-time Federation Chief of the YMCA Indian Princesses Program, as well as the assistant coach for many years of girls fast-pitch softball.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Judy; three daughters, Jill (Charles) Lorenzi of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, Joette (Steven) Castro of Lake in the Hills, Illinois, and Jacalyn (Peter) Pillsbury of Laguna Beach, California; seven grandchildren, Henri and Elizabeth Lorenzi, Chase, Cameron and Connor Castro, and Francis and Elias Pillsbury; and a sister, Shirley Burns of East Moline.
