Jerald J. Smith

Jerald J. Smith, 85, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Saturday, July 22, 2023, at home.

Services are 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 28, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12^th Street, Moline.  Visitation is one hour prior to services.  The family will greet friends at a funeral luncheon immediately following services at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe.  Private burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island, at a later date.  Memorials may be made to Quad City Animal Welfare Center.

Jerald Joseph Smith was born March 20, 1938, in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of Archie and Mary (Cahill) Smith.  He married the love of his life, Judy Johnson, on September 28, 1963, in Rock Island. 

Jerry started out as a mechanic at an early age, owning All Service Garage.  He continued his career working for Motion Industries and Purolator as well as driving a semi in between.  Most recently, he owned and operated Jerry’s Small Engine Repair, retiring last year.

He enjoyed feeding wildlife in his back yard.  He truly loved his job and tinkering with engines and other mechanical things was also his hobby.

Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Judy; his daughter, Katy Smith of Moline; his brother, Don Smith of Rock Island; and his loving dog, Mac.  He was preceded in death by his son, David Smith; sisters, Joanna Smith and Naomi Smith; and a sister-in-law, Monica Smith.
