Jean Elizabeth Quayle, 93, a longtime resident of Rock Island, Illinois, passed away quietly on Sunday, December 16, 2012, in Swedish American Hospital, Rockford, Illinois.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at South Park Presbyterian Church, Rock Island, with The Reverend Kenn Shedenhelm officiating. Burial is in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is one hour before the services. Memorials may be made to the church. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is in charge of arrangements.
Jean was born July 20, 1919, in Rock Island, Illinois, to Edna Sophia Carlson Quayle and William Graham Quayle. Her father died when she was four years old and she was raised by her mother and grandfather, Axel Julius Carlson. Jean did not attend high school, but attended business college and began working for Bituminous Casualty Insurance where she would retire as an executive secretary after more than 40 years of service. During her years at Bituminous, Jean was an active member of the National Association of Insurance Women and served as the president for a year. Following retirement, Jean traveled extensively.
Jean was an active member and an elder of South Park Presbyterian Church. She was a member of King?s Daughters, an officer of the Putnam Museum and was active in many community organizations.
Jean is survived by her nephew and his wife, Bill and Beth Lipton and their children Elizabeth, Bryn and Alison, all of Rockford, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, grandfather and sister, Karel Jane Quayle Lipton.
