East Moline, Illinois Jean M. Van Deventer, age 79 of East Moline, IL, died Thursday, October 11, 2001 at Illini Hospital, Silvis, IL. Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM Monday, October 15 at First Baptist Church, Moline with the Reverend Steven Wood officiating. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church, Moline. The former Jean Marguerite Riggs was born on June 13, 1922 in Burlington, IA, the daughter of Cecil C. and Edith M. (Christensen) Riggs. She married Gale Van Deventer on October 25, 1942 in Moline, IL. He died July 19, 1991. Prior to her marriage Jean was employed at Hawkins Studio in Moline. Jean was a member of First Baptist Church, Moline where she taught Sunday school, worked on many Church Boards, and in Christian Education, both in the region and statewide. She had also volunteered her time with the Brownies, Cub Scouts, and Girl Scouts. She was Secretary-Treasurer for PTA and for band-parents. Jean had a special love for the arts, and spent much of her free time working with stained glass, oil painting, water coloring, woodworking, and sewing. She also enjoyed going to garage sales. Her survivors include her children and their spouses; Thomas and Linda Van Deventer of Sherrard, IL, Janet and John Ruggeberg of Winona, MN, Diana and Rich Swan of Denver, CO, Darrell and Susan Van Deventer of Murray, UT, Duane and Janet Van Deventer of Charlotte, NC, Larry and Mary Van Deventer of Muncie, IN, and Brian and Paula Van Deventer of Champlin, MN, a daughter-in-law, Jenny Van Deventer-Pancrazio and Pat Pancrazio of East Moline, IL, a sister, Arlene Nicholson of Oceanside, CA, a brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Linda Riggs of Conyers, GA, eighteen grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
