Dorothy Jean Levan, 83, of Moline, Illinois, died Sunday, July 5, 2009, in her residence.
Services are 10:00 a.m. Thursday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Visitation is 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the Dorothy Levan Memorial Fund to be established by the family.
The former Dorothy Jean Vanhooser was born December 1, 1925, in Whitwell, Tennessee, the daughter of Walter Andrew and Della Mae (Sanders) Vanhooser. She married Thomas Levan on August 25, 1943, in Rossville, Georgia.
She enjoyed watching birds, going to the riverboat, and keeping her mind sharp by doing word search puzzles and scratch-lottery bingo tickets. She invented her own form of recycling by collecting many things, always finding new ways to use them.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 65 years, Thomas; children, Charlotte (Lester) Donelson of Davenport, Iowa, Gail (Dale) Colter of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Sandra (Paul) Spain of Coal Valley, Illinois, Frank Roger (Dorinda) Levan of Rock Island, Illinois, and Anita (Bob) Borkhardt of Moline; daughter-in-law, Julie Levan; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers and five sisters. She was preceded in death by a son, Troy Levan, a great-granddaughter, Lily Borkhardt, four brothers, and two sisters.
