Jean Hanson

March 1, 1928 — March 4, 2024

Moline, Illinois

Jean G. Hanson, 96, of Moline, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 4, 2024.

Visitation will be in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, on Saturday, March 16, at 10 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11 AM. Those attending the service are invited to a pizza party immediately afterward in CityView Celebrations on the lower level of Trimble Pointe. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, 724 2nd Avenue, Milan, IL.

Jean was born March 1, 1928, in Davenport, IA, to Howard "Hod" and Elizabeth "Betty" (Ensign) Gordon. The family soon moved to Moline. After graduating Moline High School she attended the University of Iowa, graduating in 1950. As a freshman she was chosen as one of five beauty queens by the campus magazine. Jean became a member and president of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and was elected into membership of Mortar Board. an honorary society.

Jean married Charles A. Hanson in Moline in 1950. They moved to Niagara Falls, NY, where Chuck was employed as an industrial engineer, then back to the Quad Cities when he accepted a position at Deere & Company. Their careers, Chuck's in engineering and management, Jean's as a beloved wife and mother, took them to East Moline, Dubuque, Waterloo, and Moline.

Jean and Chuck were devoted to each other, having fun doing many things together and living a full life. Following Chuck's retirement, they spent many winters in Florida, Arizona and southern California. At home they often took local trips, maybe driving to a nearby town for lunch, then heading into the beautiful countryside and likely stopping for dinner before going home.

For a number of years, they owned a mobile home in Wisconsin overlooking the Mississippi River. Many weekends were spent there, relaxing, boating and fishing. They also enjoyed jazz music. Quite frequently they had it playing in their home and as often as possible, they attended live performances in clubs and concerts.

Jean was a positive person. She was kind and caring, always saying thank you and never uttering a bad word about anyone. If the conversation drifted in that direction, she would try to change the subject.

She is survived by her husband; three children and spouses, Stephen and Joyce Hanson of Naples, FL, Pamela Hanson of Santa Cruz, CA, and Terry and Shelley Hanson of East Moline, IL; and ten grandchildren and their families. Preceding her in death were her parents, son Charles Hanson, brother Robert Gordon; and infant sister JoAnn Gordon.
