Mary Jane "Jean" Burgess, 91, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Friday, August 30, 2013, in Illini Restorative Care, Silvis, Illinois.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 7, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Coal Valley, with The Reverend Robert Hagen officiating. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation is 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Lutheran Ministries
The former Mary Jane Sievers was born May 29, 1922, to Lester J. and Anna Kloppmann Sievers. She married William Earl Burges son June 27, 1940, in Coal Valley. He died May 14, 2009. She was a secretary for Moline School District #40 for 23 years, retiring in 1978.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Coal Valley and Mary Martha Guild of the church, and had served a state secretary of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Illinois Rural Letter Carriers Association. She enjoyed reading and needlework.
Jean is survived by three grandchildren and their spouses, Belinda Burgess, Bridget and Adam Eakins of Grapevine, Texas, and William and Ana Keenan of Denver, Colorado; three great-grandchildren, James Keenan and Katie and Randall Eakins; and a brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Edrise Sievers of Venice, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; a son, William Burgess, Jr., a daughter Ellen Keenan, and a brother, Wayne Sievers.
