James R. Mitchel, 90, of East Moline, Illinois, died Thursday, June 18, 2015, at Rosewood Care Center, Moline, Illinois.

Graveside services are 10:00 a.m. Monday at Rock Island National Cemetery, with Fr. Donald L. Levitt officiating. The Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Those wishing to attend should meet at Trimble Funeral Home & Crematory, 701 12th Street, Moline, at 9:45 a.m.

James Russell Mitchel was born June 24, 1924, in Blue Island, Illinois, the son of Raymond and Mary (Stewart) Mitchel. He married Virginia Otto on December 19, 1959, in Mason City, Iowa. She died October 13, 2009. He was a decorated World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force.

He was a service technician for Hoover Vacuums.

Jim is survived by a daughter, Judith Moore of Moline; six grandchildren and their spouses, Russell and Karen Moore of Charlotte, North Caroline, Paula Moore of Iowa City, Iowa, Keith and Lisa Moore of Murrieta, California, Karin and Chad McDonough of North Liberty, Iowa, David and Lisa Moore of North Liberty, and Daniel Moore of Boone, North Carolina; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Laverne Mitchel-O'Connor, and a brother, Richard Mitchel.
