James J. Gibson

James Junior Gibson, 77, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away from stroke complications on September 30, 2023.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at St. Anthony’s Church, 417 N Main St, Davenport. Cremation will be take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Online condolences welcome.

James was born in Bluford, Illinois, to Jim and Edith Gibson. After graduating from Bluford High School, he came to Davenport and worked at Farmall IH Works for 20 years. He then went on to train Standard bred race horses, racing all over the Midwest and the east coast. Rest in Peace, JR.

Family was important to James and he let people know how problems should ‘be handled’, aka “The Godfather”. He loved baseball, football, cheer, and soccer; and has all the t-shirts from all the grandkids’ teams to prove it! Skill – not luck – was his mantra for the golf games with his buddies. He also grew tomatoes in every possible spot in the years and gladly gave most of them away.

James is survived by wife, Joanne; daughter, Sherry (Richard) Juarez; son, Larry Gibson; grandchildren, Gregory (Marissa) Juarez, Jacob, Tabatha, Donaven, and Elyse; three great-grandchildren, Ezekial, Brendan, and Connor; one sister, Rosalee Huston; and Family of Bluford, Illinois area.
