James C. Hanson, age 84, of Bonita Springs FL passed away on November 6, 2017.
Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 29, at First Congregational Church, 2201 7th Avenue, Moline, with The Rev. Craig Jan-McMahon officiating. Interment is in Moline Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 28, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Moline Foundation, 1601 River Drive, Moline, IL 61265, care of the Clement T. Hanson Scholarship Fund.
He was born in Moline, Illinois, the oldest of three children to Clement and Sylvia Holthues Hanson. He graduated from Moline High School in 1951 and graduated from The University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Business Degree. Jim is also a US Army Veteran. He married Joann Slager of Iowa City in 1957. She died April 15, 2016.
Jim succeeded his father as President and CEO of Hanson Advertising in Moline. During his 35-year career, he provided creative direction to many companies, charities and community organizations. Jim's distinctive enthusiasm and commitment to responsible advertising remain the driving forces behind the continuing success of Hanson Watson Associates.
Jim was active in many community organizations including Moline Rotary Club, Quad City Symphony, Trinity Health Care and the University of Iowa Foundation. He and his wife Joann established a scholarship fund and supported many other programs at the UI Foundation.
Jim exhibited thoughtfulness and kindness to all who knew him. His easy smile and hearty laugh were ever present. He loved golf, gardening and his Iowa Hawkeyes. And all his friends, family and acquaintances enjoyed his colorful socks.
Jim is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Elena Hanson of Olympia, Washington; three grandchildren, Christopher Hanson and his wife Kristen, Kathleen Hanson, and Patrick Hanson; siblings and spouses, Ann and Bob Lindquist of Sister Bay, Wisconsin, and Tom and Nancy Hanson of Chicago; and special friend Jeanne Copeland of Bonita Springs.
He was pre-deceased by his wife, Joann and his son, John.
