Rock Island, Illinois James C. Cleair, 82, of Rock Island, died Friday, May 16, 2003, in Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. Services are 1:30 p.m. Monday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline, with The Rev. Janice Griffith officiating. Burial is in National Cemetery on the Rock Island Arsenal where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline. Mr. Cleair was born October 25, 1920, in Monroe County, Missouri, the son of Minos and Florence (Ream) Cleair. He married Lorraine Allen on July 4, 1941, in Unionville, Missouri. She died March 8, 1999. He served in the U. S. Army's 334th Infantry in WW II. He was employed in Tool and Die and Machine Repair at International Harvester Farmall Works, Rock Island, for 10 years, retiring in 1985. He previously worked at Nu-Way Burner Co., Rock Island, and White-Rodgers Co., Milan, for 35 years. He was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, Methodist Men of church, Rail Splitters Society, UAW Retirees, and Moline American Legion. He enjoyed woodcarving, and visiting with his neighbors and friends in the driveway in the summer. Jim is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William and Peggy Cleair of Holland, Michigan; two granddaughters, Teresa Cleair and Laurie Cleair; a great-granddaughter, Kayla Roberts; a brother, Lloyd Cleair of Atkinson; a sister, Mary Owen of New Mexico, and several nieces and nephews, including Fern Johnson of Moline.
