Alpha, Illinois James A. Milem, 93, of Alpha, Illinois died Thursday, January 9, 2003 at Trinity Medical Center in Rock Island, Illinois. Graveside Services will be held 2:00 PM Monday at Dayton Corners Cemetery, Colona, Illinois, with military honors performed by the Moline American Legion, Post 246. Memorials may be sent to the family. Trimble Funeral Home in Coal Valley, Illinois is assisting the family. James Abraham Milem was born April 15, 1909 in Farmington, Illinois the son of James K. and Mary Anne (Kidd) Milem. He married the former Ida Luella (Chase) Carnahan on June 26, 1948 in East Moline, Illinois. He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II. Jim retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1972 where he worked as a warehouseman. He had previously been employed at the Rock Island Mill Works, and as a lock tender for the Army Corps of Engineers on the Henepin Canal. Jim enjoyed much of his retirement; fishing, gardening, doing carpentry work, being outdoors, and spending time with his family and dogs. Survivors include his wife, Ida Luella; three daughters and sons-in-law, Caroline and Jim Cooney of Camanche, Iowa, Joy and Jim Burlingame of Coal Valley, Illinois, and Linda and Denny Qualls of East Moline, Illinois; four sons and daughters-in-law, Guy and Rhonda Carnahan of Coal Valley, James Kidd of Rock Island, John and Mary Ellen Milem of Loveland, Ohio, and Jamie Milem of Alpha; fourteen grandchildren, Kevin and, Daren Hargis, Jeanne Steiner, Steve Burlingame, Lisa Duncan, Hervey and, David Qualls, Chantal and, Jessica Milem, Michael, Angie, and, Destiny Carnahan, Shawn Mislow, and Wes Boyd; Twenty Four great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two great-grandsons, Shane Duncan and Nicholas Qualls; three sisters, Jenny, Leona, and Ethel; along with two brothers, John and George.
