James A. Hastings

James A. Hastings, 78, of Moline, Illinois, died Monday, May 27, 2019, at home.

Services are 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, followed by a luncheon at CityView Celebrations in the lower level of Trimble Pointe. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday. Private burial is in Forrest Lawn Cemetery, Macomb, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.

Jim was born November 25, 1940, in Quincy, Illinois, to Ray and Marguerite (Warning) Hastings. He graduated from Quincy High School, where he was a Hall of Fame football player and sang in the choir. He married Carol Hunt on October 11, 1969, in Blandinsville, Illinois.

He worked in a variety of capacities including managing a restaurant, welding, painting, supervisory work in manufacturing at EMCO and American Air Filter, and designing the layout of industrial machines.

Jim loved sports, coaching the Moline Jr. Maroons Football and ASA Softball, and cheering on the Illini and White Sox. He loved birds, whether it be watching the birds at his feeders outside or training his parakeets to talk with a southern accent. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, canning, vegetable gardening, cooking, and was very active in politics

Survivors include his wife of nearly 50 years, Carol; children, Kimberly (Richard) Halliday of Sherman Oaks, California, and James A. Hastings, Jr. of Dunlap, Illinois, and their mother, and Rev. Brian (Gabrielle) Hastings of Normal, Illinois, and Tonia (Aaron) Nowakowski of Bartlett, Illinois; two beloved grandchildren, Hannah and Braden Nowakowski; siblings, Patricia (Jack) VanCamp, Donald (Diane) Hastings, and Michael Hastings; sister-in-law, Anna Hastings; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Robert and Gary Hastings, and a brother-in-law, Roger Briscoe.
