Richard J. Tucker, 85, of Coal Valley, Illinois, formerly of Stockton, California, died Monday, July 20, 2009, in Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, Illinois.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2009, in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer?s Association.
Richard June Tucker was born May 11, 1924, in San Francisco, California, the son of Richard S. and Beatrice N. (Carthy) Tucker. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard as a radar operator during WW II. He married June Young on July 19, 1945, in Lynn, Massachusetts. She died in 1997. He married Lillian Meadows Ford, his high school sweetheart, on May 23, 2002, in Rock Island, Illinois. Dick was employed by Pacific Tel and Tel for 35 years, retiring as supervisor in 1981. He raised Aberdeen Angus cattle and Arabian horses in Lodi, California, and had been active in the Order of DeMolay in Sonora, California.
Dick is survived by his wife, Lillian; six children and their spouses, Linda Lee and A. Daniel Gonse of Wildomar, California, Lynn D. Weber of Stockton, Richard S. and Janice Tucker of Acampo, California, Bradford G. Tucker of Klamath Falls, Oregon, Darrell and Michelle Allen of Clackamas, Oregon, and Margaret Welch and Daniel Boyle of Coal Valley; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
