William J. ?Bill? Kushlakus, 83, of Moline, Illinois, died Monday, March 30, 2009, in Clarissa Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with Fr. Douglas Grandon, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline, officiating, Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery where Moline American Legion will present military honors. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association or Clarissa Cook Hospice House.
William John Kushlakus was born February 13, 1926, in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Stephen and Anna (Butkus) Kushlakus. He served in the U. S. Navy during WW II, and married Helen Miljush on July 9, 1949, in Omaha. He was employed at McLaughlin Body Company, Moline, for 37 years, retiring in 1989.
Bill was a man of integrity who loved his family. He was an avid golfer and part of a foursome that had the first tee-off time on Sunday mornings at Emeis Golf Course for over 20 years. He was a member of American Legion Post #246, Moline, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, yard work and gardening.
Bill is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Helen; two children and their spouses, Barbara and Gary Wolbers of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and William D. ?Billy? and Kimberly Kushlakus of Round Lake Beach, Illinois; a granddaughter, Tabitha Kushlakus; two step-granddaughters, Emily and Claire Wolbers; a sister, Betty Boswell of Belle Vista, Arkansas; a large extended family; and special friends, Dan and Debbie Till of Coal Valley. He was preceded in death by a brother, John, and sisters, Bernice and Lillian.
