Daniel J. Donovan, 89, a resident of Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, Illinois, and a decorated WW II Veteran, died Thursday, February 18, 2010, in Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island, Illinois.
Graveside services are 9:30 a.m. Monday at Rock Island National Cemetery where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Those wishing to attend should meet at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, 601 21st Street, Moline, by 9:15 a.m.
Daniel Joseph Donovan was born October 28, 1920, in Monaca, Pennsylvania, the son of Michael and Anna Maley Donovan. He married Martha Katherine Flatt in 1977, and she preceded him in death. He enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1942, and retired as Staff Sergeant in 1962. During WW II, he earned the Bronze Star Medal, a Combat Infantry Badge, a Purple Heart Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster for being wounded twice, and four bronze battle stars.
He is survived by a step-son, Willard Shaw of North Liberty, Indiana; a sister-in-law, Sophie Donovan of Davenport, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews, including Karen Donovan of Davenport, and Daniel Donovan of Rock Island, Illinois.
