Paul Delmar, 84, of Davenport, Iowa, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died Wednesday, August 26, 2009, in Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf, Iowa.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, with The Dr. Donald Jackson officating. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is assisting the family.
Paul John Delmar was born October 5, 1924, in Centerville, Iowa, the son of John August and Grace (Smith) Delmar. He married Dorothy Hallgren on August 20, 1954, in Moline. She died November 24, 2003.
Paul served in the United States Army during World War II. He worked at International Harvester for 39 years in management, retiring in 1982.
He was an active member of Riverside United Methodist Church, starting the Flock while serving as Lay Pastor and Visitation Minister, teaching Sunday School for over 35 years, and being a member of the Methodist Men. He was a member of the Y?s Men Association, the Golfmohr Men?s Golf League, and the Farmall Managerial Retirement Club. He enjoyed golf, travel, reading, and sports.
Paul is survived by his partner and close friend of over 67 years, Shirley Swingle; sons and daughters-in-law, P. Jay and Rita Delmar of Arlington, Texas, and Joe and Joann Delmar of Nashville, Tennessee; granddaughters and their spouses, Aimee and Jason Losh, Erin and Mark Delashmit, and Laurel and Brad Sisk; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sisters, Jean Haas and Pauline Baker.
