Irene Nielsen, 94, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died Friday, August 19, 2016, in Bickford Cottage, Davenport, Iowa.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Burial is in Rose Lawn Memorial Estate, Moline. Visitation is 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beacon of Hope Hospice.
The former Irene Jeannette Bennington was born January 2, 1922, in Dallas City, Illinois, to E. Lyell and Elsie (Lamb) Bennington. She married Howard C. Nielsen in 1941, in Moline. He died in 1945 in WW II. She married Russell Nielsen in 1954, in Moline. He died in 1972. She was employed by the City of Moline as secretary in the Finance Department for 13 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, United Methodist Women, and King's Daughters. She was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, an excellent baker, especially chocolate chip cookies, and enjoyed handwork, bowling, bridge, and golf.
Irene cherished her family and she adored her daughters and grandchildren. She treasured her lifelong friend, the late Pauline Marks, and her 45th Street neighbors, in particular her special friend and neighbor, Jeanette Lemon.
Irene is survived by three daughters, Connie Gray of Davenport, Sherrie Blott and her husband Alan of Coventry, Rhode Island, and Wanda Price of Moline; six grandchildren and their spouses, Pam Hodge, Scott and Angela Gray, Richard and Adrienne Blott, Molly Price, Brennan and Jenna Price, and Evan and Elizabeth Price; two great-grandchildren, Kelcie Hodge and Colin Blott; a sister, Rose Ellen Nicholson of Moline; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands; two sons-in-law, Milford Gray and David Price; and two sisters, Doris Bult and Opal Gellerstedt.
