Colona, Illinois Funeral Services for Irene Dowell, age 78, of Colona, Illinois will be Saturday at 10:00 AM at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, Illinois. Visitation is Friday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Irene Dowell Memorial Fund. Irene died on Wendesday, June 19, 2002 at Illini Hospital, Silvis, Illinois. Irene was born on August 25, 1923 in Birstall, West Yorkshire, England to Willie and Mary (Benfell) Wright. She met her husband during World War II in Basingstoke, England, while serving in the Land Army. She married Clarence Edward "Bud" Dowell on November 24, 1946 in Moline. He preceded her in death on October 8, 1997. Irene retired from the King Plaza Walgreens, Moline in 1967 after many years of employment. She enjoyed knitting and visiting with her friends. Irene was an active member of the Montgomery Elevator Retirees. She was a devoted Mother and Grandmother, and was an avid Cubs fan. Irene is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Roy and Mary Jo Dowell of East Moline; a daughter, Catherine Gault of Orion; a grandson and his wife, Darren and Michele Gault of Moline and a great-granddaughter, Maya Gault. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 sisters and a brother.
