Herman Schroeder, 85, formerly of Port Byron, Illinois, died Thursday, December 29, 2016, in Meridian Village, Glen Carbon, Illinois.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Coal Valley, Illinois, with The Rev. Robert Hagen officiating. Burial is in Western Township Cemetery, Orion. Visitation is one hour before the services. Memorials may be made to the church or Lutheran Senior Services Benevolent Care. Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley, is serving the family.
Herman Albert Schroeder was born October 21, 1931, in Coal Valley, to Albert Gustav and Alice Elizabeth Grabow Schroeder. He graduated from Orion High School and married Rita Pearl Howell on December 7, 1957, in East Moline, Illinois. He served in the U. S. Army, and was employed at John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline for over 30 years, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Rock Island County Farm Bureau. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and enjoyed "planting a crop and farming, messing around outside, and anything mechanical."
Herman is survived by two children and their spouses, Tim and Donna Schroeder of Edwardsville, Illinois, and Jodee and Joe Barton of Roseville, California; four granddaughters, Katie and Emily Schroeder and Jessica and Julia Barton; and sisters, Alma Sigler of Moline, and Elizabeth Bjork of Silvis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita; a brother and sister-in-law, Martin and Lois Schroeder; and a brother-in-law, Raymond Bjork.
