G. Herbert Clausen, 77, of Moline, Illinois, died Monday, June 2, 2008, in Trinity Pathway Hospice at Terrace Park, Bettendorf, Iowa.
Services are 2:00 p.m. Saturday at First Covenant Church, 3303 41st Street, Moline, with the Reverend Randall Surey officiating. Visitation is 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the church and 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, 601 21st Street, Moline. Graveside services are 2:00 p.m. Monday in Galesburg Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church.
George Herbert Clausen was born March 10, 1931, in Springfield, Illinois, the son of George and Maree (Larson) Clausen. Herb grew up in Abingdon, Illinois, and graduated from Knox College. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1955, during which time he married Mary Elizabeth Pearson on October 23, 1954 in Galesburg.
In over 40 years of Herb?s banking career, he served in many capacities from the mail room to bank president. He worked in numerous banks in Illinois as well as Missouri and Arkansas. He continued to work after his retirement with several businesses from mortgage companies to most recently Trimble Funeral and Cremation Centers in Moline and Coal Valley.
He was a member of First Covenant Church, Moline Kiwanis, Junior Achievement, SCORE Counselors to America?s Small Business, and received the Illinois Small Business Advocate of the Year award. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his Springer Spaniels.
Herb is survived by his wife, "Lib", of 53 years, a son, Eric Clausen of Tempe, Arizona, a daughter, Sarah Clausen of East Moline, a sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Gordon Peterson of Arcadia, California, a brother-in-law and his wife, Bill and Carol Pearson of Middleton, Wisconsin, and many nieces and nephews.
