Henry W. Stukart

Henry "Hank" Stukart, 75, of Moline, Illinois, died Friday, January. 29, 2016, at home surrounded by his wife and daughters after a 3 year battle with pancreatic cancer. Hank lived his life like he fought his cancer, giving it his best and his all.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 6th. Visitation hours will be held Friday, February 5th from 4 to 6 pm. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Hank's honor are welcome at University of Iowa Children's Hospital Fund, Ronald McDonald House, Handicapped Development Center, or Quad City Animal Welfare Center.

Hank was born on July 8, 1940, in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Henry William Stukart, Sr. and Dorothy Hay Stukart. The family moved to Rockford, Illinois, where he developed a passion for golf graduating from Rockford East High in 1958. He attended the University of Illinois and Rockford College. In 1961 he entered the PGA Apprentice Program and began his career at Forest Hills Country Club in Rockford, Illinois, then Riverside Golf Club, North Riverside, Illinois, as an assistant golf professional. During this time, he was a reservist in the US Army Reserves. He married Vickie Lynne Atherton on November 1, 1964, in Belvidere, Illinois.

In 1969, Hank became the head professional at Soangetaha Country Club, Galesburg, Illinois, and in 1976, he was named the head golf professional at The Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club, serving 25 years, retiring in 2000. In retirement, Hank was on the staff at Glynns Creek Golf Course in Long Grove, Iowa, where he had the pleasure to work for one of his former assistant pros, John Valliere. He wintered in his beloved Lake Placid, Florida, developing numerous friendships and loved to fish, boat and golf.

Hank had a true passion and a deep love for the game of golf. During the time he was at Soangetaha, he was the host pro for The National Left Handed Golf Assoc. tournament. At that point his love for hosting and running world class tournaments was born. Among his favorite tournaments was the Ronald McDonald House Charity event held for many years with Pete and Joe Steinke, as well as the Arsenal Youth Classic. He was an accomplished and highly respected teacher of golf, loving the junior golfers and promoting junior golf. He was a 50 year member of the PGA and involved in the Iowa PGA Section in many capacities. The highlights of his competitive tournament golf career were competing in the 55th PGA National Championship at Canterbury in 1973, and the 58th at Congressional in 1976. Hank loved his PGA family network including fellow pros, assistants, managers, superintendents and sales reps. During this time he also developed numerous friendships at the clubs he served, and took great pride in mentoring assistants and staff that were like family to him.

Hank's greatest joy came from his 51 year marriage to Vickie, and the accomplishments of his two daughters Lynne and Erin, and their families. Hank is survived by his wife, Vickie; daughters and sons-in-law, Lynne and John Stukart Outzen, and Erin and Bill Terstriep; three grandchildren, Adam, Eli and Andrew; and five grand puppies and kitties; along with the Atherton and Gaskin families.
