Henry A. Setton, 100, of Silvis, Illinois, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, February 10, 2025, at Silvis Center.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 22, the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, with visitation one hour prior to services. The family will greet friends at a funeral luncheon immediately following services at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe (lower level). Private burial is in Bethania Cemetery, Justice, Illinois. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Moline.
Henry was born May 11, 1924, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of William and Elizabeth (Noffke) Setzke. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, during which time he married the love of his life, June Eggert, on November 26, 1943. The couple had a wonderful life together prior to her passing on November 28, 2017.
Following his military service, Henry earned his bachelors degree in electrical engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology. He always had a love for radios and owned and operated a radio/television repair shop in Chicago while in college. He went on to earn his master’s degree in education from Chicago Teachers College.
His career in education started as an instructor at Navy Peir, which was a University of Illinois extension at the time. He then went on to work his way up the teaching ranks with the University of Illinois Chicago, retiring as Professor Emeritus in 1984. After retiring, he continued to teach computer literacy for several community colleges’ night schools for over 20 years.
Henry was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Moline. He was also a very active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Brookfield, Illinois, for many years, serving in many capacities including helping his wife, June, teach Sunday School.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Thomas Hein of Moline, and Gayle Sheets and Clair Carlson of Edinboro, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren, Kristen (Keith) Forrest, Mark (Kristina) Hein, Meggen Overholt, Susan (William) Serre, Samuel Overholt, and Elizabeth (Derek) Jost; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, June Setton; his daughter, Sandra Setton; and siblings, Herbert and Raymond Setzke, and Charlotte Krueger.
